DEN MOTHER

VENICE, CALIFORNIA

Housed in a restored 1930’s craftsman bungalow, Den Mother is an experiential wellness space with treatments derived from ancient healing practices from around the world. The design scheme is inspired from the cultures of which the wellness treaments are derived: Vintage Nordic macrame adorn cedar walls, Japanese rice-paper lanterns line the hallways, and a large scale artwork of plants in their natural environment - by Indian-born artist Lekha Singh - hangs in the foyer. The space was designed to activate all five senses: a soothing reception room is lined with original California redwood and cedar, private treatment rooms feature soothing lighting, clay tiles and a custom terrazzo bathtub for ritual bathing. Outside, a back garden has been transformed into the namesake “den”, featuring an outdoor apothecary-style bar, a lava rock fire pit and overhead shade canopies woven from intertwined ropes.
