DE LA NONNA

ARTS DISTRICT, LOS ANGELES

The design of De La Nonna transformed a classic Arts District industrial building into a breezy Italian cafe - similar to the ones found along the coast of Capri. Large stationary windows were demolished to make way for custom accordian doors to blur the line between indoor and outdoor. The fun part was the “upcycling” of several of the former tenant’s fixtures left behind; round bistro tables were cut out of long cafeteria-style tables and former booths were recovered in a fun and tongue-in-cheek upholstery covered in vegetable and lettuce designs. The sprawling 2000-square-foot patio features antique brick flooring, oversized potted olive and lemon trees, and a mix-match of authentic bistro chairs and tables sourced from various European flea markets.
